In a battle, whild and trainer alike, if you loose, the participating Pokemon do not gain any levels. However, if you win, the Pokemon who were battling at the end (Pokemon who fainted or were switched out do not gain any levels) will gain a certain amount of levels. Those levels are;
- If the opponent is three levels or more lower than your Pokemon, your Pokemon will gain one level.
- If the opponent is two levels lower to two levels higher than your Pokemon, your Pokemon will gain two levels.
- If the opponent is three levels or more higher than your Pokemon, your Pokemon gains three levels.
If a Pokemon is holding an XP Share, they have to be in your party and not fainted in order for the XP Share to work.
So, for example, a Buneary (level 11) and a Natu (level 10) are fighting.
Natu used Peck!
Buneary fainted! Natu grew to level 12!
And yes, mods, you should be putting in how many levels a member has gained at the end of a battle.
Edit: an XP Share would let the Pokemon holding it gain half the experience it would if it were battling the Pokemon. Say a level 12 is holding the XP Share, and the Pokemon battling defeats a level 14; the Pokemon holding the XP share would only gain one level instead of two. ((Birdy; you can edit this if you want. Just thought it would be great to clear up the use of an XP Share.))
