Ah, Avura Town; not exactly the type of place Dexter felt at home at. He preferred small, dark and gloomy places; not the jubilant and bright place he was now. He pulled his hat down lower to blot out the sun's rays that were infesting his eyes. What a nuisance the sun was... Presently, none of his Pokemon were out. Umbra needed to be healed, Kitkun and Saren would dislike the sun as much as he did, and Zar, well... he seemed a bit tired, so despite Zar's protests, he was giving him a nice rest. And as far as Luce and Estrel went, well... they'd be at home in the water here, but they weren't the best at maneuvering about on land.
A PokeCenter caught his attention, and he decided to make a change in his Party. Estrel and Luce would be deposited, and he'd take the Croagunk out. Once he'd made his changes, he headed to Nurse Joy and got his party healed, the egg being safely carried in the crook of his arm. Dex didn't really have a place to put it that would be good, so his arms would have to suffice for now. Dex tipped his hat in thanks and exited the PokeCenter. He pondered; should he hit the Contest Hall, or the Gym? That would be a tough choice, he knew. Presently, he wasn't really ready for a Contest, he thought. He didn't have any outfits or ideas of what to do for an entrance. "Well, looks like a Gym Battle will be done first. Perhaps I Can think of something for the Contest Hall as I battle... Tena, I think it is..." Dex said to himself, heading in the opposite direction of the Contest Hall.
Once inside the Gym, Dexter took a good look around; the only light was from the lights in the ceiling and through the water at the bottom of the pool, he noted. If, somehow, the lights could be turned off, then Saren would feel more comfortable. Even half of the lights, such as the ones in the ceiling, leaving the ones in the water on, would be great. Well, that was wishful thinking... So. He'd be using Saren, but... who else would he use? Zar was up there training-wise, Umbra had just fought against the Croagunk, and the Croagunk probably wanted to sit a few battles out, so... that left Kitkun. Saren and Kit against the Totodile and Goldeen; he'd use Kit against the Totodile, and leave the preferred one, the Goldeen, for Saren to deal with. "Alright, Kit. Hope you don't mind," he said, merely tapping the second-to-last Pokeball on his belt. The Murkrow materialized from the red beam, and began hovering at about the height of Dexter's head. +Indeed. So, a Gym Battle? Piece of cake. I've been itching for a battle.+
he cawed cheerfully, flying forward. "Alright, Tena. I believe we're ready to begin," Dexter said with a smile. [/blockquote]

Tena moved into the room to stand at the end of the battlefield opposite Dexter. He was ready, or so he'd said. He probably was, considering the fact that he'd already picked his Pokémon. A Murkrow, was it? Ah, how interesting. A Murkrow like Kitkun would have an advantage over a number of other Pokémon in that he was not restricted to the platforms in the water of this battlefield, as a variety of other challengers were. Her Pokémon, of course, also had the full area to themselves, just from below. This might get quite exciting, then. "Totodile, let's start with a Bite attack!" she called as she threw a Pokéball.
As promised, the crocodile Pokémon emerged from his Pokéball, looking tough and eager to fight. It was obvious just by looking at him that Tena had spent a long time training him to perfect his moves and abilities. It was likely that he was capable of strength beyond his level, in fact. Well, maybe Dexter and Kit were about to see, because he was launching his first attack. Pushing off from the platform, he dove into the water, swimming like a dart until he shot up into the air, jaws aiming for Kit.

Dexter smiled at the Totodile; he seemed quite eager to get on with the battle. He would have the entire bottom part of the Gym to himself for use, but Kit would have the entire Gym other than the water for his use. Flying versus water... not a bad match-up. It would be interesting to see how this would turn out. So... she was going to start off with a Bite attack? Didn't the challenger get the first move the majority of the time? Hmm. Ah, well, no complaints. He'd just figure out a different strategy.
"Alright, Kit. You heard; dodge and retaliate with a Wing Attack before he hits the water again." Dexter said calmly, shoving his hands down into the deep pockets of his trench coat. However, he completely underestimated the speed of the Totodile. He was barely able to keep up with the speed as the Totodile shot out of the water like a speeding bullet toward Kit. It would be hard to dodge that one, he knew. So... that was two strikes. Third time's a charm, right? He had to think fast on what to do, or Kitkun would be dragged down to the platform, or worse, the water, from the weight of the Totodile as it clung to him.
Whoa! That Totodile sure was quick! Kit knew he didn't stand a chance this time in dodging; he had been thoroughly unprepared for that attack, but would know better next time, at least. As he attempted to dodge it somewhat, he failed miserably, and the Totodile latched onto his left wing. Well, unless the Totodile for some reason would let go right away after making contact, then this would be a fairly easy task, right? He was unable to keep himself flying in the air with one able wing at the moment, so he made use of the Wing Attack while he could. With all his effort, he flew up and bit before flying straight down, the weight of the Totodile helping significantly as both of his wings glowed and he aimed for a platform, hoping to somehow slam the Totodile into it before he could let go and retreat into the water for safety.

Totodile smiled through his mouthful of Murkrow as his move proved a sucess. After all, why shouldn't it? He had trained for many a serario, Tena as a gym leader aware that the challenger might send out pretty much any Pokémon. Flying types had been seen in this gym, and it was always interesting to see how that turned out. He had of course trained for fighting in the air, but nothing could stop gravity and there was always a disadvantage up there. He preferred to keep to his home ground; that was why when he saw Kit heading straight for the platform, he paniced a little.
No. He should stay calm. Deep breaths, now. He should always keep calm, it was best to do so in a battle. The Totodile dropped from Kit, but only ended up on the platform. He struggled to move into the water, but Kit was already upon him, the Wing Attack striking the crocodile painfully. Tena was quite impressed with how Dexter had made that change in strategy. She could tell he would be a worthy opponent, perhaps one that even ended up beating her. She smiled, waiting to see what other interesting strategies he would come up with. "Totodile, use an Ice Punch to get him in the water."
Totodile knew how this would work. He was still underneath Kit from the Wing Attack at this point, and felt his hand charge for the Ice Punch, turning cold and coating itself in ice. He would aim his punch diagonaly, so it would strik Kit to the side rather than directly upwards. Hopefully, the force of it would mean he was pushed over the water, gravity pulling him down into the stuff. The Water type proceeded with this attack, driving his fist at Kit as best he could.

Despite what was evolving into a pretty intense battle, the Totodile was pretty calm. What else would one expect from a gym leader's Pokemon, though? Dexter had a suspicion that the Totodile would do one of two things; either let go of Kit's wing and plunge into the water to avoid the wing attack, or let the attack hit and retaliate with another close-range attack. To Dexter's surprise, it was a little of both. Although the Totodile tried to dodge, it was a little too late, and the Wing Attack was successful. A split second after Tena began issuing her order, Dexter began issuing his as well. "Totodile, use an Ice Punch to get him in the water." "Kitkun, use Haze!" Dexter exclaimed. Kitkun opened his mouth and a black fog came out of it. It didn't smell, it wasn't particularly thick, but it made it very hard to see. Dexter wasn't sure if Kitkun had been able to dodge the Ice Punch or not, he only hoped so. "Kit, use Peck," Dexter said calmly, keeping his eyes peeled for any sign of his Murkrow. The black haze was perfect camouflage for Kitkun, and the sloshing of the water drowned out the sound of Kitkun's wings, if Kitkun hadn't lost yet, that was.
Haze? It's been forever since I've used that attack... Kitkun thought as he unleashed what would blend him in pretty well. Despite the Haze and his quick reaction, however, as he used his wings to try and jump away from the Totodile, he felt the Ice Punch graze his beak and struggled not to cry out in pain. That had been one hard hit; if it would have hit directly he would've been in very bad shape. As it was, Kitkun flew into the deepest part of the Haze, keeping his eye on the Totodile. Now, if only he knew Double Team or something, this would be perfect... "Kit, use Peck," Well, it would stand out less amongst the blackness. Hoping to attract less attention, Kitkun raised himself a bit, then dove downward, wings pinned to the side of his body, waiting until last second to get his beak ready. I really hope this works... this battle is wearing me out faster than I'd like... he thought to himself as he squinted his eyes, focusing on Totodile.

ooc// Haze resets all stat changes that have happened so far in battle, it doesn't lower accuracy
ic// Totodile snarled pointlessly at the dull misty Haze that now covered the battlefield. He hadn't actually used any stat altering moves yet, so it had no effect other than making it a little harder to see, but it was already clearing at Kitkun seemed to be heading towards the crocodile at an increasing speed. Wait, what? Too late. The Murkrow's Peck attack attack struck a very impressive hit indeed, pushing Totodile down into the water with a loud splash. The Water type rose to the surface, glaring at the bird.
Tena saw the glare, which gave her an idea. Scary Face might be a good idea right now, as it would slow the Murkrow and so give Totodile a better chance of dodging his attacks in future. She'd also want to use an offensive move, and right now something long-range seemed like a pretty decent idea. "Water Gun, please!" she spoke softly, eyes finding her Pokémon through the clearing Haze. There didn't seem much point in using a Scary Face until the Haze had cleared, since that move prevented stat changers.
Totodile trod water easily, webbed hands and feet keeping him afloat with the help of his air-filled lungs, his tail acting as a rudder to control his movement with minimal difficulty. It was in the water that he was really at home. Drawing in a deep breath, he focused entirely on Kit while being constantly aware for any surprises that might be coming from some other direction. He then shot a neat line of water directly at the Murkrow, the Water Gun attack seeming to be pretty accurate. [/blockquote]

(( oh, goodness. kenny had a brain fart there ._. *was thinking of smokescreen* D= ))
Awesome. It had worked better than Dexter had thought it would; Haze wasn't meant to be used as a cloaking move, or accuracy-reducing for that matter, but there was enough of it for it to work on the Totodile, to Dexter's surprise.
WIP ._.
